Contra Dance
Contra Dancing is an American Folk style of dancing, evolving primarily from the English dance tradition. Popular throughout North America, it is always danced to live music. Often the music is Irish/Quebecois/Celtic in origin but other forms of music such as swing are used for contra dancing.
Dancers begin and finish one dance (about 10min) with the same partner, progressing up and down the hall in long lines while dancing with different sets of couples, repeating a sequence of moves guided by the caller.”
